New Delhi: National Investigation Agency (NIA) Director General (DG) Sadanand Date may return to Delhi from Srinagar today and will submit the preliminary report on the Pahalgam terror attack to the Home Ministry. The central government is very serious about this attack and investigative agencies have been instructed to thoroughly investigate all aspects. The NIA team investigating the case had also recorded the statements of the victim families.
During his visit, DG NIA visited Baisaran Valley and reviewed the progress of investigation on the spot. He also held a high-level meeting with local officials. In this meeting, along with reviewing the current security situation, special emphasis was laid on strengthening the intelligence system and better exchange of shared information.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), Army and other security agencies conducted a joint operation and raided around 100 hideouts linked to the arrested overground workers (OGWs). During the raid, the house of Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar alias Latram, founder of the banned terrorist organization Al-Umar Mujahideen, was also searched. Zargar is the same terrorist who was released after the hijacking of Indian Airlines plane IC-814 in 1999.
The NIA and Jammu and Kashmir Police have so far registered a case against 90 OGWs under UAPA, while about 3,000 suspects have been questioned. Investigative agencies believe that there is a deep conspiracy behind this attack, the layers of which are slowly being revealed. The Union Home Ministry will decide the future strategy based on this report, and may issue instructions to further tighten the security system.
On April 22, terrorists shot dead 26 people in Pahalgam. After carrying out the incident, the terrorists fled. After the incident, the NIA also started investigating the attack. NIA officials also spoke to the family members of those who lost their lives in the incident and were with them at that time. The investigation team is trying to get to the bottom of the incident as to why the terrorists targeted the tourists and what was their motive behind it.
